Meet our Staff

Hunter Barrow

Hunter's move to Asheville marks a new phase of his life and career. After an illustrious 20 year career in sales and management in Information Technology in Altanta, Washington and San Francisco, he has decided to focus on Pilates and TRX to help his wife launch Pure in the Asheville area. Hunter has been practicing Pilates for the last nine years and received his certification through Urban Body Studios in Atlanta. His love for the outdoors, including cycling, running, fly fishing and golf, made Pilates the perfect answer for a complimentary fitness program. Recently, Hunter has added TRX to his regimen and is now a certified instructor.  He worked with Leigh Crews, 2011 IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year, to complete certification in both the Fundamentals of TRX Suspension Training for personal training, as well as the TRX Group Suspension training program. His enthusiasm for life and fitness makes him an inspiring and always entertaining instructor while emphasizing the athletic element of the Pilates method of body conditioning.

Erin Brown

Erin Brown thought she would have to deal with knee pain the rest of her life.  While countless hours of dancing took their toll on her body and her work as a massage therapist made her twinge with pains, the Pilates Method came to the rescue.  After a few weeks of training with Penelope Wyer Barrow at Pure, her body started to change and knee pain almost completely disappeared. Erin fell in love with this intelligent and and challenging form of body conditioning, so she began to learn and train as much as she could.  A few months later, she enrolled in the Authentic Teacher Training Program at Pure to share the Pilates Method and help others become stronger too.  She merges her background as a dancer and her knowledge as a massage therapist into a  well-rounded instructor who loves to make her clients sweat.  Since delving into Pilates, she has had the pleasure of attending advanced training workshops and conferences with Authentic Pilates Masters including Kathi Ross-Nash, Brooke Siler, Mari Winsor, MeJo Wiggin, Jay Grimes and Chris Robinson, along with additional instruction from Murat Berkin, Dana Santi, and Jon Owen. Through continuous education and training, she strives for excellence in her personal technique and teaching methods, so she may pass along her knowledge to her ever growing client base.

Kristine started Pilates in 2001 while living in New York.  After she moved to Carmel, California, Cathy Zisman, the owner/instructor of The Pilates Studio of Carmel, encouraged her to become an instructor. While teaching under Cathy, she also studied the Balanced Body method via Tom McCook and Wahilda Sharman.  After moving to Asheville in 2013, Kristine discovered Pure and Penelope Barrow. She seized the chance to study under a second generation teacher and completed her certification in Authentic Pilates at Pure in 2014. She continues her Pilates education with workshops with some the leading practioners today including Mari Winsor, MeJo Wiggin and Tom McCook. Kristine serves as the Director of the Senior Program at Pure, designing Pilates classes tailored especially for seniors. A month later, in January of 2013, she began her Pilates journey. During her training, she pursued an additional certification to teach TRX which she believed would complement her Pilates and athletic background. Elizabeth Huntley

Elizabeth Huntley started her Pilates training with Marianne Adams at Appalachian State University as a way to gain strength for dance. During her time at AppState, she fell in love the way that Pilates strengthens and stretches while improving both the body and mind's agility and stamina. After graduating from AppState, Elizabeth moved to Asheville, decided to become a Pilates teacher, and found Penelope Barrow at Pure. With Penelope she learned the interworkings of the Authentic Pilates method but also the deep inter-connections of the body. Elizabeth teaches beginning mat classes and Pure barre classes as she completes her certification at Pure this spring.
